For my impact story, I wanted to share the story of a young girl named Eva, who has been swimming with us for a long time. Recently, she finally moved up to Advanced Water Bug, which was such an exciting milestone for her and for all of us who taught her.
A little while later, we noticed that Eva had dropped from lessons, and the note said she would be in the hospital for two months. We knew something had to be seriously wrong. One day, we saw her best friend’s mom and asked what had happened, and she told us that Eva had been diagnosed with leukemia. Hearing that completely broke our hearts.
As teachers, we wanted to do something to remind Eva that her Ocaquatics family was thinking about her and supporting her. We decided to put together a care basket to send to the hospital. Inside, we included books, toys, crayons, snacks, and a big teddy bear that played a sweet recorded message from the four teachers who taught her.
This experience showed me that Ocaquatics is so much more than just a swim school. We build real connections with our families and students, and we truly care about them both in and out of the water.
