IMPACT STORY · WEEK 36
FROM
Andrea Hernaiz · Northwest

In May 2025, our Northwest location hosted its first Zero Drownings Miami-Dade session. It was an incredibly busy two weeks, particularly with one group that consisted almost entirely of students with special needs. The environment was loud and often overwhelming, but the team embraced the challenge.

Throughout the session, the instructors, deck supervisors, and "extra eyes" remained patient and focused. They turned a demanding situation into a positive experience for the swimmers, staying energized despite the high volume of students and the specific needs of the class.

On the final days of the program, one of the school teachers approached Camila and Andrea to offer her praise. She emphasized that what the team was doing was not easy, noting how impressed she was by their patience and skill with her students. This recognition was deeply meaningful to the staff, serving as a great conclusion to a successful first session and a testament to the team’s dedication to every swimmer.

Every week we feature one Impact Story. If your Impact Story involves an Ocaquatics Co-Owner, you can nominate them for the 2026 Co-Owner Impact Award.
