Lucy’s Superpower: Turning Survival into Hope

FROM
Ben Alegria · Gables

We already know Ms. Lucy is a brilliant architect, a graphic designer, and has a heart of absolute gold. But what you might not know is that Ms. Lucy is also a fierce breast cancer survivor. She is incredibly strong, and she has turned her own battle into a superpower to help others.

Over the years, we’ve had several families come through our doors who are going through their own devastating fights with cancer, whether it’s breast cancer, brain cancer, or other forms of the disease. The moment Ms. Lucy finds out a family is going through this, she becomes their number one spokesperson and fiercest advocate.

Ms. Lucy will literally stop what she is doing to go sit with these parents. She talks with them, walks them through what to expect, and pours into them the exact love, humor, and support they need during their darkest hours. She also makes sure our entire team takes extra special care of these families so the pool can be a safe haven for them.

Because of the deep, life-changing bonds Ms. Lucy builds, many of these families have beaten the odds and now come back to us completely in remission! Ms. Lucy doesn’t just enroll swimmers and families into lessons she helps them survive the storm. We are so lucky to have our very own wonder woman on the team!

Every week we feature one Impact Story. If your Impact Story involves an Ocaquatics Co-Owner, you can nominate them for the 2026 Co-Owner Impact Award.
